A 1926 former YMCA converted into a boutique hotel, the tenth 21c Museum Hotel. The concept marries hotel operations with publicly accessible contemporary art galleries. Each location occupies a historic building in a mid-sized American city, typically anchored by a high-end restaurant. Here, the original ten-story masonry shell was retained and its recreational and residential program restructured around the new hospitality and gallery use. The lobby, billiard room, café, and second-floor gallery retain or replicate their original wood paneling, tile floors, and plaster ceilings, one of which was recast from silicone molds. In the basement, the original lap pool survives, including its "Swim for Life" mosaic, with replacement tile produced by Rookwood to match the original glaze.
