The eastern expansion of the Saint Louis Art Museum is a contemporary counterpoint to Cass Gilbert's 1904 building, designed to respect the historic structure's prominence in Forest Park. A single-story pavilion set on a low plinth, the building is clad with panels of dark polished concrete containing Missouri and Wisconsin river aggregates, creating a material contrast against Gilbert's light stone. A sculpture garden behind the building displays works from the museum's modern and contemporary collection.
