A pediatric inpatient unit that retells St. Louis Children’s Hospital’s existing Forest Park theme from a child’s point of view. The hospital faces the park across Kingshighway, and artwork elsewhere in the building is based on park destinations, such as the zoo or the balloon race. This fourth-floor renovation shifts the subject from the destinations to the trip. The stated aim was a more inclusive version of the hospital’s theming. Large murals show children moving along park paths on bikes, scooters, and wagons, and in strollers and wheelchairs. The murals include tactile and interactive elements, and families follow the theme’s colors to patient rooms.
