The David Rubenstein Forum is the University of Chicago’s conference center, built to hold events on campus instead of in downtown hotels. It stands at the south edge of the Midway Plaisance, where the campus has been gradually expanding toward Woodlawn. Many south-campus buildings face north toward the Midway, with their backs to the neighborhood. The forum was designed to face both ways, a reversal of the mid-century push to wall off the campus. Above a two-story base, the tower is solid zinc on the sides and glass opening north and south. The meeting rooms and lounges stacked inside have views of Rockefeller Chapel and downtown in one direction and Woodlawn in the other.
