Society Hill Towers

Society Hill Towers above rowhouses on a cobblestone street by I.M. Pei, Philadelphia Pennsylvania - architectural photographer Philadelphia

Society Hill Towers — I.M. Pei — Philadelphia, PA — 1964

Society Hill became a model for postwar urban renewal for its relative restraint. The plan involved restoring colonial-era rowhouses instead of leveling them wholesale. I.M. Pei's three towers, finished in 1964, are the modernist counterweight, the high-rise component of a scheme that also included new low-rise townhouses.
