The American Museum of Natural History's largest expansion in a generation. The architect describes the form as a canyon, eroded from solid rock by wind and water. Up close it reads the other way. Granite set in panels, shotcrete sprayed onto rebar in layers, the surface was built up rather than carved. Less a canyon and more a nest, accreted cell by cell.
