Prentis Building

Prentis Building — Minoru Yamasaki and Associates — Detroit, MI — 1964

Wayne State hired Yamasaki in 1957 to prepare a campus master plan in response to postwar enrollment growth. Prentis was completed in 1964 to house the School of Business Administration. It was the first of Yamasaki's temple style buildings erected and the one example without a podium. Its precast colonnade carrying an overhanging block above a recessed travertine base anticipated Robertson Hall at Princeton by a year.
