Monday Club

Monday Club exterior stucco facade and arched brick entry by Harris Armstrong, Webster Groves Missouri - architectural photographer St. Louis

Monday Club — Harris Armstrong — Webster Groves, MO — 1932

Three years before Harris Armstrong designed the Shanley building, he took this modest commission for a Webster Groves social club. The Monday Club catches a major regional modernist mid-turn: still working under a picturesque English idiom of stucco and brick, but already paring it toward restraint. The interest is the timing, Armstrong on the cusp of the style that made him famous.
