Brentwood Park Event Pavilion

The Brentwood Park Event Pavilion is the public face of a flood-control system. It anchors a park built for Brentwood Bound, a program addressing chronic flooding along Deer Creek. The watershed, fed by twenty-two municipalities, has flooded the corridor 26 times since 1957. The park's low ground is graded as a restored floodplain engineered to hold stormwater, and the pavilion is the amenity that makes that infrastructure a destination. A central pass-through breezeway splits the plan to form the arrival threshold; glass façades and an operable glass wall open the rentable event space onto a wrap-around terrace and event lawn. The building stands on an exposed heavy-timber frame beneath a roof carrying photovoltaics. In November 2024, heavy rain tested the design: the lower park held the water as planned, in a storm that damaged other parts of the watershed.
